Cotton Fantasy Review

Another Cotton game reviewed here. This time though it is not a reboot or enhanced ports of past entries but a brand new game in the series. Known as Cotton Rock ‘n’ Roll in Japan we will find out if the game the 30th anniversary hyped up was worth the wait or not as we take a look at Cotton Fantasy, developed by Success and published by ININ Games.

Note that this review is from a casual SHMUP player I cannot judge how good or bad the scoring system is here compared to past entries.

This blog is no stranger to reviewing Shoot-em Up (SHMUP) games so why not tackle another one? Actually an unexpected sequel of a particularly naughty title. I am referring to the sequel to Waifu Uncovered. The conveniently titled Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy, aka Waifu Uncovered 2. Developed by One-Hand Free Studios, published by eastasiasoft.

Hololive fans may remember this hard as nails Sega Genesis/Mega Drive classic from Korone’s endurance stream. In 2021 Ratalaika Games published an enhanced HD port for PC and consoles. That is what we will be looking at today. Here is Gynoug. developed by Masaya Games and Nautlander. Do not ask me about the proper pronunciation of the game title.

The 30th anniversary of the Cotton series continues. As of this writing we got the Cotton Reboot, the Cotton Guardian Force Saturn Tribute Collection (the three games are sold separately in digital stores) and coming in Winter 2022 the newest entry in the series Cotton Fantasy (“Cotton Rock and Roll” in Japan). This time we will be looking at two enhanced ports of a Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive game, Cotton 100% and Panorama Cotton, developed by Success and published by ININ Games. and Ratalaika Games.

Another horizontal Shoot-em Up to check out. This time based on another classic series, Darius, specifically the DariusBurst game which got some updated versions across the arcade, PC and modern consoles. Speaking of the PC version note that this version of the game does not include the “Chronicle Saviours” Mode but there is another mode exclusive to this one. Find out what I mean as we take a look at DariusBurst Another Chronicle EX+, not to be confused with DariusBurst Another Chronicle EX. In early 2021 I reviewed Space Invaders Forever, a collection of three modern takes on a legendary video game. Now we return to take a look at what is essentially the “Sonic Mega Collection PLUS” compilation, meaning a similar collection but with more games. The last game I reviewed that may be considered a “Cute-em Up” title would be Sisters Royale but one that no doubt fits this category like a glove is the following remake of a shoot-em up classic. Question is whether it is a worthy one or fans are better off looking for older releases. Let us find out as we take a look at Cotton Reboot, developed by Beep and Success, published by ININ Games.

A shooter where you play as a ninja (ninjas in local 2 player) with a horse mask on a mission to rescue sexy ladies from alien invaders that contaminated their clothes. He (they) does so by piloting a spaceship shooting down the aliens and “purifying” the contaminated clothing. If this sounds appealing then join me as we take a look at Waifu Uncovered, developed by One-Hand-Free-Studios and published by Eastasiasoft.

My curiosity for the following game was just that, a curiosity. The big question, of course, is whether this foray into a “Bullet Hell Shooter” was worth delving into or there are better shooters to try out elsewhere?
